Imprint of their lives linger

where their blood was shed.

A memory of the first world war and the battlefields of France where my grandfather fought.

In Britain we acknowledge those of our family, and all the sacrifices of servicemen since, with a poppy on remembrance sunday.

We will remember them.

Vienna Woods

.

A zither calls

to the fairy ring to dance,

to whirl, to twirl and sing.

.

Three quarter time

is their delight, echoing

on this moonlit night.

Crescendo notes

tumble on forest floor

with glow of magic.

no proof of presence.

Yet lives beside us

watching our struggle.

Wanting to help us,
